This series does a really good job of teasing you, but we're officially half-way through! What were your thoughts on this week's episode? Do you have any new speculations? A favorite scene? Is Sugane a closeted fashionista? Share your thoughts!
I'm going to make this one brief and maybe hop back in when other folks share their thoughts... Most of what I thought would happen—Hajime would reveal her identity, the existence of Gatchaman would be revealed to the world, Rui would throw a few choice words her way—happened. I'm not sure what I expect out of this series anymore, it leads you into one thing, then backs away and prolongs it, which I'm somehow enjoying? This series is so charming and quirky that it's hard to be bothered by is weird (although not bad!) pacing. Although I really want to get into the heart of this story, what is going to happen, when are we going to face the actual conflict? Maybe in the coming episode but most of us though that last week, and the week before ha-ha!
Blah, blah, blah... Sugane has managed to march up as one of my favorite characters, as a whole I just really enjoy him. Hajime and Utsu-tsu's little adventure was very cute; Joe continues to hoist death-flags. I want some more O.D.!

Rui has been after the Gatchamans since the beginning, right? I'd love to hear everyone's ideas on whether this is part of their deal with Berg-Katze, and whether the speech was more about ideology or puppeteered by Berg-Katze. Like. What is Rui's Faustian wager ^^. I feel they could have been honest, but as many people on tumblr pointed out, if Hajime senses Rui's motivations are masked, it maybe really...isn't.

i wasn't too surprised about hajime revealing her identity, but i admit to almost screaming when they caught her on camera. i wasn't expecting the entire world to find out (until later at least), but i think it was handled really well! i'm really glad that hajime was able to spend more time with utsutsu, and speaking of utsutsu, she looked so adorable this episode!
more than anything, i'm really upset that sugane didn't go with joe. i know that was definitely a death flag for joe, and i really don't want him to die even though it's obvious he's going to very soon. ;; i know sugane was worried about hajime and i'm glad he did some investigating, but it's just one of those things where you know that if he went with joe he probably would have lived.
i was very interested to find out that joe only goes back to his apartment whenever he needs equipment, though. it makes you wonder what the inside of his apartment looks like if he just stores weapons in there. hopefully we get to see it before he dies orz. at the very least, it looks like joe and sugane might meet up again after all. if sugane is going to investigate rui some more, he might end up running into berg.
i read on another forum that most people seem to think berg is going to either kill joe or steal joe's identity and go on a killing spree. my heart is probably going to break in half either way, but i'm really not expecting joe to live past the next episode. i'm not too bothered by the pacing; i would like something to happen, yeah, but all of this seems like they're building up to something, and i'm really curious to find out what. i have a feeling once the conflict starts, it's not going to stop.
i'm really upset about the lack of o.d., though. i realize it's because he can't do much without destroying the world, but he's barely gotten any screen time. ;; at least we got to see more of utsutsu!

it just raises a bunch of questions, and i hope we found out more about him and his life before he inevitably kicks the bucket. ;;

Ha-ha, I was curious about where Joe would've lived if he lived with everyone else too. I was wondering if he was supposed to bunk up with O.D. and Utsu-tsu or what? Although, I was under the impression he just had his own apartment elsewhere and didn't bother to move—he seems like the type to like his privacy and independence, and you'd think being a civil servant would at least pay enough to have a decent living space. Considering he seems to have a work facade and a casual facade kind of makes wanting to keep his Gatchaman-life separate from his social and personal life.
Also yeah, ha-ha, I kind of feel like that's where they're headed with Joe. Berg Katze will probably take him over and go on a dandy shooting spree, maybe even kill Joe in the process. I'm really sad either way, I at least hope we get a little bit more of him before he goes. (I want a flash back episode so bad!!!!!!!!!)
Er, on the note of Berg Katze's motives... I was talking about this on another forum last night, but I think they're going to play with the idea of "ordinary heroes" verses "super-powered heroes". This was already briefly touched on with Rui, who's basically said he wants everyone to be a hero so the world is a better place. Maybe that's the big red blaze Berg Katze is hoping for? People fighting amongst themselves, arguing about what the Gatchaman can and can't do or questioning what they have and haven't done—what makes these select few people so special, why were they chosen and not me or someone else? Why aren't they using their powers on a wider scope? "I can be a better hero than that!"
Urgh and yeah! What the heck, I want to know if any of the others have family. 8'V Utsu-tsu? Sugane? Joe? Hell, Paiman? I bet Sugane was raised by his grandparents or an older relative.

i would love a flashback episode with joe, though! i'm mostly curious about when he and sugane were having a conversation and sugane said, "i only became a gatchaman because of you," and joe replied with "how many times have i heard that?" i'm aware it can be taken two ways: one being sugane constantly reminding him that he became a gatchaman because of joe, or that other gatchaman have said the same thing as sugane. i always thought it was the latter, so it makes me wonder if it's true, what happened to the others? and does it have something to do with why joe seems to like working on his own? i want to know more about him so badly. ;o;
that's a good theory on berg, though! once the g-crew decided they were going to keep a low profile for now, i started getting a bad feeling in my gut. ;; people are going to wonder where they are and why they aren't helping anyone, but i didn't know what it would end up causing. your theory on ordinary heroes vs. the gatchaman fits right into it, and i think you're right! it's already been stated that berg destroys worlds without ever getting his own hands dirty, so i definitely think you're onto something with the big red blaze.
at the very least, i'm going to assume that paiman and o.d. don't have any family to speak of. paiman's already said that he's traveled to and saved many worlds, so even if he does have family, they're probably in a different world entirely. ;; o.d.'s already hinted that he's not from this world (and maybe even accidentally destroyed one himself since he knows he'll destroy the world if he uses his gatchaman powers), so i don't think he has anyone. i definitely want backstory on utsutsu, sugane, and joe, though! i agree that sugane must have been raised by an older relative or his grandparents, so i'd definitely like to see what he was like as a child to have adopted acting like a samurai!

though i think we're all kind of keeping our fingers crossed about him staying alive, hahaha;;; this is the halfway point, so it should get (or rather, just change to be a different kind of) interesting from here!

i would love for joe to stay alive! ;o; i really don't think he's going to because of how many death flags he's tripped, but if he manages to stay alive until the end of this anime, i think he'll definitely be my new hero. if he really manages to overcome all of these flags, he'll have worked his way up to my favorite character along with sugane. i agree that it's definitely going to get interesting from here on out, too! here's hoping we get some action soon!

they're both really great characters! haha. i really liked that scene with joe and sugane, though, because it shows just how they understand each other, not just sugane being all "joe you're so cool senpai 5ever" etc., but sugane does go after joe, knowing what it means that he said he was going back to the apartment. and then joe understands why sugane's hesitating (even if sugane hasn't figured it out/is denying it/a little bit of both), and i really like that mutual relationship they have! i'll be sad if it ends like this...

now i'm trying to think of what song would be perfect for the montage...
there's a lot to comment on this episode lol
I'm suuuper worried about Joe right now. Because he's raising a lot of death flags in this episode. Like he let Utsutsu use some of his life to help the injured people (also yay finally some interaction between the two!)and I don't like the looks of those guns and bullets. Joe, don't do anything stupid! >_<
I really really like the Sugane-Hajime interaction in this episode. There's development between the two! Sugane is starting to understand Hajime a bit better. There's a lot of sweet moments between the two that makes this shipper happy :> Overall, great episode! It didn't disappoint.

I wasn't really surprised with how the beginning of the episode went. However my theory of Rui and the Gatchamans allying with each other to fight Berg is kind of thrown out the window (T^T) since Rui kind of said stop being Gatchaman. Which is ironic because Rui uses his Crowds to help people when a bad situation seems almost hopeless (-3-).
I think we can all agree that Joe isn't having a good end in the future. Which sucks because we really don't see his character. I love the idea of having a flashback episode! That would not only make the loss of Joe even worse for us, but that would just make us see more in his character than there already is.
What I'm really curious about is O.D. To me, he's the most mysterious character out of all of them. We found out Utsusu's issues , we met Sugane early on, and Hajime is the main "heroine" of this anime. However, O.D. is veeery curious to me. He comes off as this very flamboyant and likeable character, but then you see him interacting with Pai-Pai when it's just them alone and he seems much more reserved and mature. I really want to know what his power is. For some reason I see him and Berg being kind of two halves of a whole. In the intro they do a cool thing where it goes from Berg to OD and I really want to know what the kind of connection is. If there isn't, then I guess I was just looking to into it hehe ('^-^)
I can't wait for the next episode!
